 Aviva Europe Restructuring

No Job Losses,

Zero Lay-Offs !

The Force Ouvrière Trade Union of Aviva France has circulated the following to staff at the Head Offices in Bois-Colombes

Bois-Colombes, Aviva France Head Office

Friday, October 21st

We have learned of Igal Mayer’s October 19th announcement concerning a « restructuration of Aviva Europe ».

Ireland will take the brunt of this decision ; its operations will be attached to London and 950 jobs are under threat.

Discussions based on « transparency » ( ?) will be have been announced. In what framework and on what specific subject ?

No one knows, as the European Forum has neither been informed nor consulted on the subject. In any case, this body has no means for intervening on this type of decision.

Neither would a European Committee -  the implementing of which was refused by Mr. Andy Moffat last year – have much prerogative to wield.

We declare ourselves to be in total solidarity with our Irish and British co-workers who are being threatened with lay-offs and re-organization.

They are being targeted today, other countries will be tomorrow, so unquenchable is the thirst for profitability and profits for the shareholders and management of Aviva.

Their objective comes down to the reduction of salary costs, for which lay-offs and regrading are the most immediate and the most brutal means!

We express our total support to all the employees of Ireland and the U K, in any actions they undertake with their trade unions to block these decisions.

- No lay-offs!

- The maintaining of all the jobs on all the sites!

- Solidarity with our Irish and British co-workers!

We, French staff representatives, have been angered by Igal Mayer’s announcement and the loss of so many jobs. It is obvious to us that using crisis as an excuse is not right. In fact he is attempting to charge the employees for the failure of quantum projects. He claims to be transparent but he has failed to mention that Aviva has raised its insurance premiums by at least 12%, erasing thereby all competitiveness in Ireland. He forgot to mention that the bosses’ compensation has risen by more than 20% last year. They don’t give up their bonuses and their golden parachutes. We’ve been told that UK workers were concerned too by job cuts. Moreover we condemn the manner in which Irish workers, who are to be fired, were told not to speak to the press, forums or social networks. Are we still in a democracy? These are mafia-like methods. We are far from transparency. Moreover, since this operation affects more than one country, why not convene the European Forum? We have also heard about outsourcing. What are the concerned jobs? What is the future of the new datacenter and thus of IT teams in the next 3 years? Meanwhile we would like to send all our support to the 950 workers and their families, hoping Unite will back them efficiently.
